This May marks the 10th anniversary of this incredible event and we invite you to attend! By participating, you are funding valuable research focused on lung cancer and its early detection.
The proceeds raised by this race go towards a competitive grant for early detection and lung cancer research. The 2017 grant recipient and their particular area of research will be announced at the race in May. To date, proceeds from the Gift of Life and Breath race and other donations to the Gary L. and Thelissa Zollinger Endowment for the Early Detection of Lung Cancer total more than $750,000.
Also this year, we tell the story of Gary and Thelissa Zollinger and their personal journey through lung cancer and founding the race. Like every cancer story, theirs is unique. It shares themes to which many can relate: love, patience, faith and humor as well as advocacy, frustration, disbelief and despair. Above all, the Zollingers’ is a story of hope and possibility.
Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer of both men and women in the United States. In 2016, lung cancer claimed an estimated 158,080 American lives, according to the American Cancer Society.
By focusing on early detection and lung cancer research, we hope to offer a positive outreach to the community and give lung cancer the immediate attention it needs.
We look forward to seeing familiar faces and new participants at this year’s race, which will be held May 20th at 9:00 AM at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. Registration begins at 8:00 AM or you can register online.
